What to take on a long trip — a packing list

In this post we would like to share with you the list of things we considered necessary to take with us on our round-the-world Journey. Perhaps some things from our list will come in handy on your trip too.

What to take on a round-the-world trip — a packing list

On a long trip, when you have to keep moving with all your belongings, it is very important to minimize the weight of everything, get rid of what you don't need, and choose the lightest of what you do. All our things together weighed ~16 kilograms, and everything fit into 2 backpacks (70 and 28 liters). Here is the list of things we took with us on our round-the-world trip:

  1. Backpacks — 2 (70 + 28 liters). It is worth noting that this combo makes it easy to get around by scooter, for example, in Asian countries. The small backpack sits between the driver's legs, and the second one goes on the passenger's shoulders (it rests on the seat, the shoulders only keep it steady).
  2. Foam sleeping pads — 2 (UPD: got rid of them — too much space, rarely used them)
  3. Tent, 2-person
  4. Sleeping bags — 2
  5. Inflatable pillows
  6. Clothes:

Alexandra:

  • Dresses
  • Shorts — 2
  • T-shirts — 2
  • Pants
  • Thermal underwear
  • Warm sweater
  • Underwear
  • Swimsuit
  • Shoes — flip-flops, sneakers

Pavel:

  1. Toiletries
  2. Towel
  1. First aid kit:
  • Painkillers
  • Stomach remedies
  • Remedies for injuries (hydrogen peroxide, iodine, bandage, …)
  • Fever reducers
  • Sun protection
  • For allergies
  1. A knife with all sorts of gadgets
  2. Fanny pack
  3. Needles and thread
  4. Electronics:
  • E-reader, headphones
  • Plug adapters
  • Immersion heater
  • Flash drive + external HDD
  • Flashlight + 2 batteries + charger
  • Solar charger (stopped working)
  • Universal backup power bank (thanks, colleagues :)
  • Micro USB cable — 3
  • Laptop + charger + case + mouse
  • Camera + 3 batteries + 2 lenses
  • Phones — 3 (UPD: 2, 1 was stolen) (1 smartphone, 1 basic phone for incoming texts from Russia)
  • Added in Nepal: a gas burner, a gas canister (lifespan — until the first flight), a basic set of cookware for cooking on the burner.

We hope this information comes in handy when you pack :)
