Today we’ll tell you how to get or extend a visa to India in Sri Lanka, in the city of Kandy. If you plan to visit India after Sri Lanka or are doing an Indian visa run, this is the easiest way to get an Indian visa in Sri Lanka.
Cost of an Indian visa in Sri Lanka
At the Indian consulate in Kandy you can get visas for:
- $45 for 3 months, single entry
- $100 for 6 months, double entry (Kandy is the only place in Sri Lanka that issues this visa)
How to get an Indian visa in Sri Lanka
To get a visa, you need to submit the following documents to the Indian consulate:
- An application form, which you fill out on the consulate website and print out once it’s filled in;
- 2 photos, 5×5 cm;
- 1 photo, 3×4;
- Passport;
- Money, per the previous section, in Sri Lankan rupees.
If you don’t have a printer for the forms, it’s 20 rupees a page in the consulate building. If you don’t have photos, it’s 250 rupees next to the building. If you don’t have a filled-out form, it’s 500 rupees in the same place.
You submit the documents, pay the fee, and they give you an appointment 5 business days later. On that day you come to the consulate at 9 a.m., hand over your passports, and the same day, from 16:00 to 17:00, you pick up your passports with the visas in them. You can pass the time while waiting for your visa with a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kandy.
That’s all. The exact address of the consulate is on the map below. Namaste! ;)
